A Curator's role is to preserve the nation's historical, cultural and social heritage by collecting and documenting artefacts and exhibits of Singapore and the surrounding region. He/She acquires these items through purchases, gifts, field explorations or inter-museum loans. This requires substantial historical and archaeological research.
A Curator also helps to promote awareness, and to stimulate interest in the culture and history of Singapore/Asian region through exhibitions and other media. He/She develops the museum as a cultural and educational institution to serve the community, and encourages public participation in the museum's programmes and activities.
To be a Curator* with the National Heritage Board, you need to have a:
Good Honours degree (at least 2nd Upper) and/or Post-graduate degree in a field closely related to key
collection area(s), such as anthropology, sociology, history or Asian Studies; museum studies and management skills desirable.
* At the National Heritage Board, this post is designated as Assistant Curator.
