A Commercial Artist could be an Art Director, a Visualiser, an Illustrator or a Finished Artist. Taking the Art Director as an example, he/she has to create and form ideas with the copywriter. While the copywriter writes the words, the Art Director visualises the words in various media. Art Directors determine the typeface, colour, paper, photography or illustrations, models, etc.
To be a Commercial Artist, you need a:
(1) Diploma in Visual Communication [Temasek Polytechnic]
OR
(2) Diploma in Design (Communication Design) [LaSalle-SIA College of the Arts]
OR
(3) Diploma in Visual Communication [Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts]
Other equivalent diplomas from recognised institutions are also acceptable.

To apply for admission to the diploma course in Visual Communication, which takes 3 years, for 'O' level holders, you must have:
(1) Grade 1-6 in English Language (EL1) OR
(2) Grade 1-6 in Mathematics (Elementary or Additional)
(3) Grade 1-3 in any 3rd and 4th subject
(4) Grade 1-7 in any 5th subject

To apply for admission to the diploma course in Design (Communication Design), which takes 3 years, you must have 5 GCE 'O' levels (4 credits and D7 English) or its equivalent.
Applicants without these entry requirements may be considered on the strength of their portfolio and artistic inclination after an interview.

To apply for admission to the diploma course in Visual Communication , which takes 3 years, you must:
(1) have GCE 'O' level credits in 5 subjects
(2) pass the entrance test
