An Architect is concerned with the design and construction of buildings. He/She can be involved in changing the physical environment and improving people's quality of life.
He/She prepares sketch designs and detailed working drawings of buildings in construction, taking into account clients' needs, purposes of construction, the shapes and levels of land used and the budget.
His/Her duties also include arranging contracts between clients and builders, visiting construction sites to ensure that work is properly done and to discuss any construction problems that may have arisen, as well as liaising with people from government departments & private organisations.
To be an Architect, you need a:
- Bachelor of Arts (Architecture) Honours [NUS]
- Master of Architecture [NUS]
The BA (Arch) Honours degree at NUS is the general undergraduate degree course in architecture. It prepares graduates for the Masters of Architecture which leads eventually to professional registration.
The MArch is a professional degree course which builds on the undergraduate program in architecture. It prepares candidates to become architects. The MArch is a 2-year course, and the prerequisites includes a high performance in an undergraduate architecture course, and a minimum of 10 months of approved Practical Training.
Other equivalent degrees from recognised universities are also acceptable.
To become professionally recognised as an architect in Singapore, you have to be registered with the Board of Architects Singapore.
